The NSW government is providing targeted support to the state’s accommodation sector to alleviate the pain of lost bookings during the winter school holiday period.

The cash flow increase funding will allow qualifying accommodation facilities that lost overnight stays between June 25 and July 11 inclusive to apply for grants of up to $ 5,000.

Employment, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Minister Stuart Ayres said the $ 26 million initiative was of critical importance to accommodation providers whose rates occupancy have fallen over the past month.

“It is heartbreaking that this recent outbreak of COVID-19 occurred just on the eve of the winter school break, which means Sydney residents, NSW residents and interstate visitors have not were able to carry out their travel plans across the state, ”said Mr. Ayres.

“The industry has reported a dramatic drop in occupancy rates, with some Sydney properties registering just 2% occupancy in July 2021.

“This program is open to all qualifying NSW accommodation facilities as the current restrictions affect not only operators in Greater Sydney but also those in the NSW region who have lost their main source market to the Sydney metropolis or the highway.

“There are over 38,000 accommodation providers in New South Wales, from hotels and motels to vacation home rentals. I encourage all companies to check the Service NSW website for more information, including detailed eligibility criteria, as they will be posted in the coming weeks.

“The $ 5.1 billion support package, including up to $ 4.1 billion from the state government, announced yesterday by the Prime Minister, the Premier of NSW and the Treasurer of NSW will be a huge Relief for many businesses involved in the state’s visitor economy, allowing them to keep staff on and the doors open for our recovery.

“Now it is up to all of us to stop the spread of the virus so that we can start traveling again and enjoying our state’s experiences and attractions as soon as possible, which businesses really need.”

There will be two levels of grants available for accommodation facilities under the initiative:
– Level 1: For accommodation premises that have had a cancellation of 10 nights or less, there is a subsidy of $ 2,000
– Level 2: For accommodation premises that have had a cancellation of 11 nights or more, there is a subsidy of $ 5,000

To be eligible, businesses must be GST registered and / or hold an ABN, be located in New South Wales and the accommodation facilities must be fully owned, i.e. not rental from vacations of a free room in a residence.

When an owner / operator has several accommodation premises (identifiable by differentiated postal addresses), each accommodation premises is eligible for the subsidy.

Accommodation providers can apply for this grant and other supports such as the COVID-19 Business Grant and the Business and Employee Support Program. Details of all support initiatives are available on the Service NSW website.
