CAMPING, GLAMPING, HOLIDAY PARK AND GENERAL ACCOMMODATION ALL YEAR ROUND

Jolene Clark, Regional Sales Manager at cottages.com:

Can you tell us a bit about your involvement in the tourism industry?

Having lived and worked in the East of England for over 20 years, helping to promote local tourism has been a key part of my career. I now manage a team of local experts who work with vacation home owners to provide self-catering accommodation that guests want to visit again and again.

Why did you want to get involved in the East of England Tourism Awards?

Tourism in the East of England is flourishing, offering diversity in the form of breathtaking coastlines to the unique and glorious Norfolk Broads – a truly exceptional experience for visitors. Our standards are high and the competition is fierce. It is a privilege to participate in these prestigious awards.

What do you bring to the judgment process?

Attention to detail. I understand the time, effort and sacrifice that goes into the preparations and work required to continually exceed client expectations and ultimately help create special memories.

Do you have any anecdotes about self-catering experiences that blew you away?

I have just returned from an independent stay on my own. The property was immaculate and had a breathtaking view. But the icing on the cake was a personalized welcome note (including the dog), a bottle of our favorite drink and chocolates for my daughter who were there to welcome us. This kind of attention to detail helps create an unforgettable experience and makes faces smile from the start.

What advice would you give to an independent business considering setting up?

It’s the little things you do that make a client’s vacation unforgettable and make your accommodation even more special. So, don’t forget to consider the attention to detail.

B&B AND GUEST HOUSE OF THE YEAR

Scott Goodfellow, Deputy Managing Director of Tiptree:

Can you tell us a bit about your involvement in the tourism industry?

I’m based in Tiptree, where we grow a wide range of traditional English fruits and use them to make preserves, condiments and other treats in our factory, but I enjoy chatting with customers all over the world. We have our teahouse estate across Essex, and we supply the tourism industry with our mini pots and love to see where they end up. We export to over 60 countries and enjoy being stocked or served in quality independent cafes, guesthouses and airlines.

Why did you want to get involved in the East of England Tourism Awards?

These prestigious awards bring together the best of the tourism industry. Our region has a very high standard.

What do you bring to the judgment process?

A wealth of food and drink knowledge from my time in Tiptree and prior to Mars. We have a chain of Tiptree teahouses across Essex and we understand and appreciate the challenges and rewards of providing great customer service.

What were your previous experiences as a judge?

I had the chance to participate in the jury for the Essex Life Food and Drink Awards. It was a privilege to taste the delicious food and drink from the region, but it was incredibly difficult to pick the winner as the competition is so high in this region.

What advice would you give to a B&B or Guest House considering entering?

If you have something remarkable to give, be sure to participate in the prizes!

The deadline for nominations for the East of England Tourism Awards is October 3 at midnight. To see the full list of categories and criteria visit www.tourismawards.co.uk
