Taos Vrbo’s 9 Best Rentals Near the Ski Slopes
Although no two ski resorts are the same, Taos Ski Valley is more special than most. Located about 20 miles northeast of Taos (a popular town in its own right), the valley is home to a small village and a fantastic ski area. The area (Taos is the name of the largest town, but many people also refer to the ski area simply as Taos) is a strange mix of cultures. This fact is no small part of the appeal. The aesthetics and culture of the Alps were imported and completely adopted by the region, but have since undergone hybridization, taking elements from the more local native and Hispanic cultures that make New Mexico so unique and appealing.
The Taos ski area offers steep terrain, high quality snow and small crowds. There are a number of ski-in ski-out accommodations and many more within walking distance of the ski lifts. At over 9,000 feet above sea level, it presents some challenges for people who live at sea level. But it also brings the area the light, fluffy snow that brings smiles to so many skiers. There is plenty of advanced and intermediate terrain, but the mountain is somewhat lacking in beginner areas. (However, first-time skiers won’t have a problem; there are several lifts for beginners.)
Visitors should also be aware that many properties are inaccessible in winter without a four-wheel drive vehicle.
If you’re staying intrepid and eager to tackle this incredible mountain, here’s a list of nine Vrbo vacation rentals to stay in while you explore Taos. Some are accessible from the mountain, others are a short drive away, and each promises an incredible ski getaway.
