Need to establish more hotel management institutes in Punjab: AAP MP
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora said there is a need to establish more centrally funded hotel management institutes in Punjab which has a significant number of hotels in Ludhiana, Amritsar, Mohali and Jalandhar.
“It will help create more jobs for young people and reduce crime and the threat of drugs,” said Arora, an industrialist from Ludhiana.
He added that it was observed that the demand for hotels was increasing across the country, but there was a shortage of qualified professionals. “Not only in India, but there is a high demand for skilled professionals across the globe in the hospitality industry,” he added.
Arora added that recently he asked some questions regarding hotel management institutes in the country to Rajya Sabha and in response, the Union Tourism Minister replied that currently there are 21 central hotel and hotel management institutes (CIHM) across the country. He said that the Union Tourism Minister further informed the House that a total of six State Institutes of Hotel Management (SIHM), one in Bihar, Odisha, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, were affiliated in the past three years (2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22) and funds worth Rs 5930.56 lakhs have been allocated to these institutes. However, no SIHM has been affiliated in Punjab for the past three years.

Arora said that the establishment of new hotel management institutes is an ongoing process and that the Union Ministry of Tourism is taking necessary decisions in this regard as proposals are received from state/county governments.
