Care Leaver Accommodation in Millersdale, Clock Face Approved
PLANS to convert offices into supported housing for care leavers have been given the green light.
Proposals for change of use of units at Millersdale, Clock Face, including a one-storey rear extension, have been submitted to council by Torus Housing.
The site is located on Millersdale, off Lindale Drive and the plans stated that “the existing buildings are/have been leased to multiple tenants for a combination of uses”.
A design and access statement on behalf of the applicant said: “The proposed new project concerns a refurbishment and extension of the existing terrace into six one-bed apartments, two of which are disabled accessible and communal facilities with a staff stay in the apartment.
“The program aims to provide residents with access to safe facilities to learn and acquire life skills after leaving their primary residence due to circumstances.”
The plans concluded: “We believe this scheme provides a safe space for vulnerable members of society and will give them ample opportunity to fend for themselves.
“Given the current use of the project, we believe the application would not negatively impact the local residential area, with the removal of the project shutters and planting helping to soften the building and improve the appearance of the area”.
Case officer Alex Ball said in a report, recommending the development for approval: “The application site is in an established urban area.
“The conversion of the building into supported housing for young people would make a positive contribution to the reuse and conversion of buildings suitable for housing, providing good quality housing in a sustainable location”.
The request has been authorized.
